Christian Education Department Visits Ngurumani

On the afternoon of March 17, 2006 the mood at Pangani Lutheran Children's Centre(PLCC) was jovial. The children were all smiles, teachers were busy running up and down aisle to give the final touches on months of preparations for visitors from the United States University (USIU).

USIU has a mandatory course requirement, whereby all the students are expected to initiate, research, write proposal, raise funds and implement a project which gives back service to the community or alleviates societal challenges/problems.

Mrs. Julia Kahuthu ( KELC Bishop's wife), John Odima, Eunice Tatu, Dauglas Obejo, Maryanne Kago and Hillary Maina choose PLCC as their place for implementing the project, which would earn them credit for the course requirement.

Two professors from the university also attended the event to witness the donation of assorted items either bought by students or given by corporations. The corporations that played a major role in the day were:

  • Vitaform- for subsidized mattresses.
  • Actieve- for sanitary towels.
  • Colgate Palmolive- for supporting the initiative and subsidizing dental clinic.

Other items handed over were blankets, bed sheets, mattresses, books and sanitary towels. The project also included a free dental check-up conducted by Dental students Dr. Kinoti, Dr. kemunto and Dr. Simiyu all from Nairobi Dental School.

The USIU students promised to continue supporting PLCC and thanked the PLCC Director for giving them the opportunity to come to the Centre and serve the community.
