Women's Department Meeting in Taveta

Taveta was the site for the most recent women's department meeting. Department coordinators from the KELC parishes discussed the issues and progress of the department in the recent months.

The first issue that was raised by attendees was how food was distributed to the different parishes in need. The previous year only certain locations received food. Many representatives felt that there were place who didn't receive food and should have. It was asked that in the future all parishes are given the same amount of food.

The mission area of Nyango expressed their desire to start a tailoring school. The Women's Department would need to financially help in training the person who would then teach other women in Nyango. It was stated that other parishes have done similar programs and Nyango should look at how those programs were started to get ideas.

Ukambani parish proposed that a water tank be constructed to collect the rain water from the church building. However, the Ukambani coordinators were not sure as to how to raise the money. They said they had written a proposal to the Head office, but have yet to hear any feedback.

Nairobi parish also proposed that Dorcas House be expanded. The parish was given the go ahead to look more into the costs and logistics of the expansion.

The second day's agenda included a discussion on orphans and widows. The KELC department Coordinator Alice Mwaringa asked for exact numbers from each parish and what they are doing to help them. The parish representatives raised the issue that many times these orphans and widows are under the HIV and AIDS programs in their parishes. Some representatives felt that reaching out to these people would be seen as interfering with another department.
